Zinc Asterisk is an online magazine that seeks to reveal the fantastic behind the mundane.
Welcome to The Tourist Edition. Writers were asked to respond to this prompt:
Write a vignette, 300 words or less, for a tourist brochure, about an ordinary place. The Target Parking Lot in Schaumburg. The bus stop at Ashland and Chicago. Strive to reveal whatever it is tourists want at the Eiffel Tower, but is actually always in front of them.

If you're interested in submitting, the prompt for our next issue, The Miracle Edition, is:
Paul Simon said, "These are the days of miracle and wonder." Miracles surround us: air travel, antibiotics, next/same day delivery, Facebook, the fact that driving doesn't result in endless accidents. These modern miracles deserve to be celebrated. The assignment: write up to 1,000 words about a miracle you've experienced. Think about this miracle the way a future shocked anthropologist might.

Submissions are due September 1, 2017.
For more information or in order to send a submission please Contact us.
We hope you enjoy the pieces and consider writing something yourself!
